Good morning! I have loved finding new ways to feed my family healthier. Last year I had a huge stockpile of food that I had gotten cheap. We did completely eat out of our pantry for months. Now we are buying on healthy options and only what we need from week to week. I couldn't believe the difference in these Jelly's. Same company, way different products, health wise.
My kids eat a lot of sandwiches for their school lunches. The jelly on the left is the regular un-healthy jelly. The jelly on the right is the simply fruit. You can even just tell looking at them that the jelly on the left is more glazy, sugary, and corn syrup based.
Reading labels is so important. I have to admit, when I went to buy new jelly, the options were overwhelming. What ever happened to just PLAIN jelly? Normal jelly without ingredients I can't pronounce and are unhealthy. We really like this kind.
What kinds of jelly do you recommend? Are you switching to healthier foods at your house?

What we we have done to our food is a tragedy:(
ReplyDeleteNow that you are a SAHM (whoop, whoop), you should can or freeze your own! It tastes WAYYY better than any store bought:)
Have a GREAT week in your new job!
Wow, thanks for sharing, I had NO idea!!
ReplyDeleteI never really thought about what is in my jelly. And I love PB&J! What's the difference price-wise? Not that price is a deterring factor for eating healthier. Just curious.
ReplyDeleteWe have been making a lot of switches in our house lately too! mainly because we found out i have an msg/nitrate allergy! (msg which is in almost everything processed - or it's aka version, sigh)
ReplyDeleteSo this week has been a lot of finding ways that we like veggies served! (ie kale chips rock!)
But it's sure been a blessing in disguise, and really forced me to look at ingredients and how some things are disguised into food! :(
I made that exact same jelly/jam switch a while back. My family likes grape jelly the best and when I looked at the ingredients I about died. So I switched it with the blackberry and they don't even notice the difference.
ReplyDeleteI made the jelly switch about a 2 years ago and would never go back. We also no longer buy cereal, I prefer to just make an oatmeal based granola if we want cereal or we just have oatmeal. I'm still working on getting my kids on board w/ making healthier food choices but I definitely think it's worth it.
ReplyDeleteBTW I love reading your slow cooker posts, i've gotten some great ideas so thank you!
So there wasn't any health grape? That's too bad!

You can also buy no sugar added grape, also simply fruit by smuckers-in grape as well and not a bunch of other junk in it. Smucker's has more choices then Welches for sure. Also, have you considered making your own apple butter? My daughter loves her grandma's homemade apple butter on a pb sand! She does a crockpot version, and yes it has sugar in it, but you can control the amount. My mil never adds as much sugar as the recipe calls for. It is delicious! You can then can it or freeze it, either works!
ReplyDeleteA few more dollars at the grocery store is completely worth spending a few less dollars at the doctor's office!!
